HUGE, HAPPY NEWS!

Lolita is an orca who lives in the SMALLEST orca tank in the United States. She was captured from the wild and hasn’t seen another orca since her tank-mate DIED by bashing his head on the side of the tank in 1980.

The National Marine Fisheries Service has finally granted Lolita—the lonely orca who’s being confined to a cramped tank at the Miami Seaquarium—the protections that she’s entitled to under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Now that Lolita has been given additional protection from “harm and harassment,” we’ll work to ensure that these protections are enforced and continue to push for her retirement and release.

A protected coastal sea pen off Washington’s San Juan Islands would allow her greater freedom of movement and the opportunity to see and communicate with her mother and the rest of her long-lost family members, who still spend much of their time in the area.

NO orca deserves to live in a tiny tank, and soon Lolita may taste freedom again!
