Nobody, really nobody, plays like Jeff Beck! There is hardly a second guitarist with whom the discrepancy between the subjectively recognized level of difficulty and the actual implementation are as diametrically different as his.
Jeff Beck’s performance was particularly volantile in the past, i.e. on a bad day you could leave the concert a little earlier, on a good day he played everything in sackcloth. I had the pleasure to hear him together with Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas on the accompanying tour in the Dortmund Westfalenhalle, which gave the songs an extra punch.
The 76-year-old vegetarian who doesn’t age is probably the only guitarist in the world who manages to make me crying fits with a comparatively “simple” melody on “Where Were You”.
